East London Science School

Welcome to the East London Science School, a dynamic new secondary school in Bromley-by-Bow. We are about to embark on our fourth academic year. We received a “good” rating from Ofsted in June 2015. We will be launching our plans for a sixth form this year and I am very excited about the plans for our brand new permanent site at West Ham.

We are an exciting, friendly and ambitious school. We offered 125 places to pupils starting in September 2016 with a waiting list for places.

We have a total of over 430 pupils with pupils in Year 7, 8 , 9 and 10. Year 10 pupils have moved to our second site at Lock Keepers a short walk from The Clock Mill along the canal. This will allow us to introduce new specialist facilities, including two new laboratories, a new art room studio and a music room. Lock Keepers will be the home for pupils in Year 10 and 11. We work very closely on admissions with Newham. However, we are not restricted to taking pupils from one borough. Pupils come to us from across Newham, Tower Hamlets and beyond.

What attracts pupils to the East London Science School is a commitment to deliver a high quality academic education to all pupils regardless of background or ability.

All pupils are given the same demanding curriculum from Year 7 onwards. The focus on science means all pupils receive physics, chemistry and biology lessons taught by specialist teachers from Year 7.

Whether it is mathematics, English, languages, the arts or humanities, pupils receive the same rigorous subject specialist education.

Our knowledge led curriculum gives all our pupils a rigorous education which will give them the opportunity to pursue their studies to university and beyond.

I want to create confident, ambitious and successful pupils who are able to pursue their dreams on the world stage.

Over the past three years, we have seen our pupils put on two Shakespeare productions, take part in a growing number of sports fixtures and inter-school debating competitions. This alongside their impressive academic performance is already proof enough that they are well on their way to success.

Our unique enrichment programme has taken pupils on over 750 trips in the last academic year. With visits to venues as diverse as the Greenwich Observatory and Kings College computer science laboratory.

During our Enrichment Fortnight pupils visited the University of Cambridge, Eton College, Portsmouth Naval Dockyard and Box Hill in Surrey.

We want to open the eyes of every pupil to a whole world of possibilities. We want our pupils’ ambitions to know no limits.

I hope you will consider choosing the East London Science School for your child and see how far they can go in achieving their ambitions. David Perks, Principal East London Science School
